2024 New Years Goals
Over the past few years, I have been thinking about how to reimagine my podcast “The Active Optimist,” for now, it will take the form of this newsletter. It's been something I have wanted to do for a while, was part of my 2024 goals, and comes from the question of who do I want to be.
So, I put the active back into the Active Optimist. Instead of saying, “I'm trying to start a newsletter,” I just did. I currently think, “I have a newsletter.”
It's a simple self-talk trick to change behavior. Trying makes change feel hard. Why? Because it implies a lot of effort and tough decisions. The same goes for “I'm trying to exercise more” or “I'm trying to eat healthier” – it's hard. Eventually, you get tired of trying and stop.
It comes down to describing myself as that person. I have a newsletter. It is a small but mighty change in self-talk, but it gets the job done.
Now that we have reached mid-January and the high of New Year's has dissipated, how are those resolutions? How can you change your self-talk to put them into action? Who do you want to be in 2024?
