Rethinking the Active Optimist

If you are reading this, you have probably listened to one of my 60 episodes or have, at least, heard about my podcast. Through my episodes, I have always emphasized the connection of the body, brain, and mind. The one thing that, without a doubt, addresses all three is exercise. And this rings true in my story.

At a young age, I found myself feeling lost and uncomfortable in my skin. My fitness journey over the last ten years has shown me that exercise has a ripple effect on every aspect of our lives, especially our mental lives. It helped me through depression, low self-confidence, and shyness. My lowest point mentally aligns with a time in my life when I was most sedentary. While I got into it for my body image, I stuck with it for the physical therapeutic effects. Exercise got me to work towards the best version of myself, and now I want to help you do the same!

We all want to be active participants in our lives, make good choices, feel our options, and maintain control. With a realistic and attainable approach to living a balanced lifestyle, together we'll create small daily steps, and whatever your goals are, I hope to spark ideas on how to get you there.

So, to be an active optimist means to create change in your life through action, literally. How can you up your movement today? Movement can be preventative as much as it can complement any medication or therapy you have.

Challenge yourself. Set up a schedule for a daily walk, jog, or dance class. Make small choices. Take the stairs. Ask for help. Have a friend or family member accompany you around the block. What will you do?
